BIO- Richard Sher Computer Artist
I grew up in Los Angeles and began painting in my teens. I began taking pictures in the last year at Hamilton High. I read philosophy during high school and beginning years of college. Accepted into Cal Arts in 1972 Design school Photography but abandoned the still camera for the Black and White video studio. Became interested in electronic music and worked with the Buchla 100 and 200 series synthizers, Studied with Paul Chalicombe and ED Williams in the Experimental Video room in the Film school. Worked with the original Paik/Abe Synthizer. Next year I produced and directed a 20 min video entitled “The Last Supper at Cal Arts”.
Left in 1974 to attend The Evergreen State College in Olympia Wa. Studied the emerging business markets using the video disk for the distribution of visual information.
Graduated in 1976 B.A. in humanities and began working in Hollywood as a sales engineer. I focused on Video post production systems and advising on new markets. Formed the partnership for several post productions companies including Video Transitions. Begin a carrier to merge computer animation with video post. Operated and art directed projects for broadcasters using systems from Alias, Wavefront, and Cubicomp. Configured and trained these systems in Hollywood Burbank and the greater Los Angeles area.
I Founded CEC3Space a 3-D production company that focused on delivering digital content for DIC Entertainment a Saturday morning cartoon producer, video game and interactive media companies like Knowledge Adventure and Lucas films.
Moved from the LA area to the mountains of Sun Valley Idaho to raise a family and refocus on Fine art using the 3-D technologies I developed to create High quality prints from digitally created scenes. The art work presented today is the first in a series of Prints that can be rendered to a wide range of sizes as well as incorporated in to muti-display installations using flat panel displays and video projection techniques.
